Mayor Art Yoon |
BiographyI was elected to serve as your representative on the City Council on November 6, 2001. Though this is my first elected office, I have worked in public service on your behalf for over ten years in Washington, Sacramento and here at home. After receiving a BA from Johns Hopkins University and a MA in public policy from Georgetown University, I took a position on the federal level because I believed, at that time, that I could make the biggest difference for the folks back home by working on Capitol Hill. I served as an aide on Capitol Hill for nine years working to reform national immigration policy, securing federal funds for beach replenishment projects and ensuring California got its fair share of federal transportation funds. I also served as an aide to State Treasurer Matt Fong in Sacramento. But ten years in Washington and Sacramento was enough for me and I looked forward to coming home to work more directly for the people of Hermosa Beach. In 2000, Congressman Steve Kuykendall gave me a chance to come home and put my experience to work for you as the director of his local office where I served until the end of his term. In 2001, I served as your Commissioner on the Hermosa Beach Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Commission where I helped to make recommendations to the City Council to ensure our beach and greenbelt remain safe and clean. Later in November 2001, I began a four-year term as your Councilman. On April 13, 2004, I was sworn in as your Mayor, a role I’ll serve until January 25, 2005. In August 2004, I will serve as your Delegate to the Republican National Convention in New York City. In my professional life, I am a manager for Cox Communications. I serve on the Board of Directors for Heal the Bay, as the South Bay’s representative on the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission and attend Faith Presbyterian Church. I am also an MBA candidate at the USC Marshall School of Business, 34 years old and a native of Hermosa Beach. |
